A patch of dirt Slowly the sprout grows Lifting its leaves toward the sun Soaking in its light Feeling the pure life return to its roots I've pulled the weed out twice before and yet again It grows back The roots twined into my heart like its dirt Like my blood is water Plentiful and replaceable It feeds the little demon Pesticides aren't the answer They're a last resort It wasn't planted by me But that's what it wants me to think It whispers in my ear What it wants me to hear It's spreading and contagious I'm becoming it There's almost no me left I whisper for help but It comes out muffled Like the wind Its leaves close
